ABOUT KIARA PELISSIER
My education in the Handmade began in early childhood. I am the youngest in a family of four consecutive generations of artists, each employing a different medium. My relationship with glass began as love at first sight. I was 12. I visited Haystack Mountain School of Crafts where my father, a metalsmith, was assisting a class. The glass blower that session was Lino Tagliapietra, an Italian Master Glassblower and artist. When I finally began my glass career in 1996 I was 19. I never looked back.
In 2000 I received my Bachelors from the Cleveland Institute of Art in Ohio, and in 2006, my Masters from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts. I have taught glassblowing at Virginia Commonwealth University, Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina, and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine. My work is in the collection of the Museum of American Glass, in New Jersey, and my one-of-a-kind glass pieces, limited edition series, and permanent installations can be found in public and private collections throughout Richmond and the East Coast, including Capital One Bank, Markel Corporation, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. I currently live and work in Richmond, VA.
